Aird Scouts

Aird Scouts has been meeting at Kiltarlity Village hall for the last 8 years, although we are often no where near the hall – as we like to get outside as much as we can to explore the local area. We have recently returned from a weekend of outdoor activities based in Aviemore where 15 scouts, both girls and boys, enjoyed mountain biking, zip wire trails, rock climbing and “weavling” – crawling under and over a field of boulders. We were meant to be going skiing but the lack of snow required a change of plan!

Here is a picture of one of our scouts climbing at Duntelchaig.

Other activities have included exploring Beauly village, night hikes at Abriachan, climbing on the wall at the Sports Centre in Inverness…. and thats just the winter programme. This summer we will be cycling up Strathfarrer, canoeing down the River Beauly, messing about on boats in the canal and playing wide games (a kind of team tag in open spaces). We will also be doing what everyone expects from Scouts – going on camp. Scouts expect the unexpected, go on adventures, learn a few skills along the way….but mostly just have fun!

We are always on the look out for new leaders/helpers so if you enjoy seeing kids have fun and maybe want to give your CV a boost, contact Scout Leader Paul Whitefoot on 01463 831422 or e-mail aird.scouts@hotmail.co.uk

Cycling at Strathfarrer

Make sure you have a servicable bike (brakes and gears work, tyres are pumped up and wheels go round freely!) , a cycle helmet and a water proof jacket.

As there are now so many scouts, a few ( 3 or 4) parent helpers will be required. Please let me know if you are able to assist. Parent helpers will also need a bike and helmet. 7pm start and 9 (ish) pm finish.

We are also considering two activities:

1. A canoe trip down the Beauly river for 1 day – provisionally booked for 24 June. Cost will be £15 per scout.
2. A weekend camp in late August. Cost will be around £30 per scout. Date and venue to be confirmed but it will be local to the area.

Please let me know your interest in both of these events as we need to get booking them.
